Mind-Body Healing and Your Abundant Health

What is Abundant Health?

Having abundant health means having health in great quantity or, being very healthy. Is that not what we all want for ourselves? I am sure there are those that don’t, and I believe it is caused by a craving for attention, and subconsciously believing illness and disease are the only way to get this attention.

The next few blogs will be dedicated to mind-body healing. There is just too much information and too many cases to fit on one!

I believe we all can positively affect our health if we can place our focus on our thoughts, feelings and attitudes. The mind-body connection is so much stronger than most will believe. Although I am not the picture of health YET, I do believe my thoughts, feelings and attitudes have affected my health, first negatively, and then positively. This is my story.

Psychosomatic Illness

While growing up, I had a great-aunt who was constantly getting ill, claiming health issues of one sort or another. The adults would always talk about how she would seem to contract almost anything a friend, or friend’s friend or just about anyone she heard/read about had contracted.

They would shake their head and talk about her psychosomatic illnesses. Today, through studies, many scientists and doctors are finding that a lot of illnesses and diseases are psychosomatic. A psychosomatic disorder is a disease which involves both mind and body (http://www.patient.co.uk/health/psychosomatic-disorders).

I was always told I was so much like my mother. I was thrilled with this as I adored her and hoped to be just like she was when I grew up.

And, as I grew up, I watched her suffer through one health crisis after another. She was mentally strong in ways; but in others, not so much. She carried so much inner turmoil and emotional burden on her shoulders, unable to detach her feeling and emotions from what an alcoholic husband, unloving and judgmental mother-in-law and inconsiderate, selfish children put on her.

As an Adult

From my mid 20’s, I didn’t take care of myself, ate all the wrong foods, drank too much, smoked like a chimney, and, until my mid 30’s took more than my fair share of recreational drugs. As I reached my 40’s, I was a very good candidate for an early death with illness and disease accompanying me all the way.

Late 40's

Late 40’s

I began to have one health issue after another into my mid 50’s. These health issues didn’t mimic those of my mother though. While her illnesses were internalized, my mind chose a whole new route. Instead of internal organs, most of mine were muscular-skeletal with a few odd glandular issues here and there. The list just kept growing and growing, and I was approved for disability as of May, 2010 at the ripe old age of 54.

The “AHA” Moment

With all of the self-help and spiritual books I’d read, I finally stumbled upon information regarding the mind-body connection. I was amazed, when I thought back on my mom’s life and health issues, how much her mental and emotional condition could have, and did, affect the health of her body.

I then took a long hard look at my own emotional and mental state, along with my physical health. I could see the correlation between the most stressful and painful times of my life and the onslaught of illness and disease. By then, I had been diagnosed with multiple illnesses, diseases and syndromes. I was taking 11-15 medications, depending on what was going on with my body.

So, through meditation, hypnosis and creative visualization, I eventually learned to pay better attention to my thoughts, feelings and emotions. I have been able to decrease my medications down to 2-3 and plan on being dependent on none by summer of 2015. I feel better than I have in years, have more energy and sleep through the night.

To many, this may not seem like much; but, it wasn’t long ago I didn’t believe I would make it to my 65th birthday.  Today, I’m looking forward to abundant health for the rest of my long life.  I believe my before and after pictures tell the story

The next 2 or 3 posts will be dedicated to sharing information of studies regarding mind-body interaction and stories of others who had drastic improvements in their health through changing the health of their thoughts and feelings. Some would call a couple of these miraculous.

Have you or anyone you know experienced amazing improvements in health without the use of surgery or medications? I would love to hear from you.
